Cloverfield is a film that has a Godzilla like monster that we never see. But, it has done a hell of a job marketing itself by using the internet and fake home video footage.
The film was recently released and has made 41 million in a matter of days. The film cost 20 million to make and has already recouped its investment.
I think the biggest draw to the film is a clip in which the head of the Empire State building comes rolling down the street, screeching, and sparking.
The home made video follows the main character Rob (Michael Stahl-David)through the film as he is attending a going away party for himself.
As the party progresses Rob is confessing unresolved feelings and tying up loose ends. When a sudden jolt shakes everything up. The crowd quiets down and watches news reports of an earthquake. The crowd then runs to the roof to asses the damage.
I really don't think the roof would be the best place to asses the damage. It probably would have been smarter to get out of the building.
A fireball explodes and powerfailure occurs. Confusion and panic ensue as the partygoers take to the streets moving towards the inhuman roars and their destinies.
The director Matt Reeves has done an excellent job at keeping the film suspenseful by keeping the monster a secret.
Cloverfield is a must see.
One Love, One Nation, One World.
